The manner in which the young lad practiced penance surprised all.  None knew His where abouts and nor did their enquiries lead to any answers.

One day, the villagers asked a person  who possessed by the village diety about the young boy.  The man pointed to a spot under the neem tree and asked them to dig there.  Upon doing so, the curious villagers saw a row of steps leading to a cave in which, much to their amazement, they saw four earthen lamps burning brightly.  Here and there were strewn a few crumbs, which indicated that someone had eaten there.  Then the man told the villagers that the young lad had observed penance there for a period of 12 years. This surprised all the villagers and a million questions arose in their minds - The boy is appearing as 16 years lad only, and that person is telling that the boy is in the cave for 12 years,  did the boy practice penance right from his fourth year!?  how is it possible in the cave underneath, and how can the lamps are burning so brightly; what about the oil for the lamps, how and when did he come out to eat....? When they confronted the lad with such question,he very calmly told them to close the pathway and regard it as a sacred place and he left the village.  The villagers enclosed the area with great reverence and even now it is considered sacred. No they named  the place as Gurusthan, i.e. place belongs to Guru.

The Ascetic

 Around 150 years ago, in a small village named Shirdi, people first saw Sai Baba of Shirdi as a gong lad with a charming countenance.  None were aware who he was, and they often saw him under a particular neem tree, either meditating or in some yogic posture.

The blazing sun, chill winter weather or heavy rain did not budge Him from His place.  He sought neither protection nor escape from such extreme climatic conditions.  He felt no desire for company, did not need any  worldly comforts.  Pitch darkness did not deter Him.  Day and night people saw Him immersed in meditation near the Gurusthan... may be to show that we have to follow our Guru in a steadfaster manner.

Sai's advent on earth is to drive away difficulties and sadness.  Meditating of on Sai's form and chanting Sai's name gives us satisfaction and contentment.  His grace blesses us with knowledge, wisdom and courage.  Blessed is the mankind, who are able to reach Sai Baba of Shirdi, and blessed are the people who have lived and spent time with Sai, for the association with such Living Supreme God  is only possible to anybody if they might have been done lot of penance, spiritual practices since so many past births and might have earned purified and possitive consciousness or they may have got promisses by the God Him self  to live with Him during rebirths

You know sometimes, very big and most important incidents, go unnoticed, as we think them very small and very ordinary and most unsignificant. We miss the chance to be present there at that very special time and we miss to get the benifit involved in it.

Sai Baba of Shirdi's avatar on earth is also such incident. We missed it unnoticed.  The Most Supreme God, Taking human form and appeared as sixteen years lad under the neem tree at a remote village Shirdi, in India, in the world, on the earth!  The incident is most importand and very significant happened like a very normal natural incident.  The Supreme God taken form of a normal human being, domed a kafni (a type of robe), and a piece of cloth tied to His head.  After that He lead a very simple life like a begger. Yet he was the richest man, for He held the key to boundless treasure, that He alone can lead us to the goal of human birth. He is ready always to give what is deserved but it is all for us to keep it up. We can have it if we have faith, love, patience and total surrender to Him.

   Between birth and death, is a journey called Life.  Our karma undermines the life we lead and the life we deserve.  We regs that we sow. Our actions of the past and the present create the circumstances that we face during our life time. Hence, many a time, the conclusion of events is unforeseen, unthinkable and we often wonder at how things have turned out. In many such cases, we look to God for support, like a child in a difficult situation looks out for his/her mother.  We will definitely receive unconditional love and His divine grace at all times.  We then realize that the ultimate saviour is Baba!
